Our round-up of the weekend’s football action
FIN Brennan scored direct from a corner to earn Stratford Town a share of the points as they came from behind to draw 1-1 at home with Southern League Premier Central strugglers Hitchin Town.
The visitors dominated the opening half-hour and led through a Dan Stokoe penalty after he had been brought down by central defender Kevin Joshua.
Calum Ebanks had a chance to bring the Bards level before the break and Paul Davis’ side piled on the pressure in the second half boosted by Brennan’s curling corner that ended up in the back of the net four minutes after the restart.
Chances went begging though and with Hitchin keeper Seb Stacey in sparkling form, Stratford had to settle for a draw - a result that dropped them down to fourth in the table.
FC Stratford are also sitting pretty in the play-off places at the top of Hellenic League Division One following their 2-2 draw at another side pushing for promotion, Abingdon United.
The Oxfordshire hosts led 2-0 at the break courtesy of goals from George Gilmore and Casey Highmoor but the visitors hit back through Dan Atkins early in the second period with Jacob Williams netting the equaliser nine minutes from time.
Earlswood Town were 4-3 winners at MFL Division Two strugglers Lane Head helped by an Elliot Edwards hat-trick while two goals from Adam Garmson helped ease Alcester Town to a 6-0 win at home to Westfields Reserves in the Herefordshire Premier League to keep them on track for the title.
