New drivers added to team’s GT line-up
DRIVER Ian Gough has returned to Century Motorsport to refresh a partnership dating back 20 years to his karting days.
This time, he will be behind the wheel of a BMW M4 in the upcoming British GT Championship – one of two new additions to the line-up of the Fenny Compton-based team with Tom Wrigley also in their ranks for the campaign which starts at Oulton Park at the end of March.
“We’re so excited to be back in 2024, representing The Lions Barber Collective and our campaign ‘The Race to Save Lives’, racing to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention,” said Gough.
“In 2023 we came so close to winning both GT4 titles and that is our goal for the season ahead.
“I already feel at home with the team. I used to race with Nathan [Freke] and Century 20 years ago in the British Kart Championship and we’ve always stayed in touch.
“Century is without doubt the best team on the grid plus Tom has so much expertise with the BMW M4, we know we’ll be able to extract the most from each other every time we hit the track.”
Team Principal Freke said: “It’s great to have Tom and Ian joining us in the BMW GT4. They were a standout pairing last year and for sure will be contenders for this year. Given the history Ian and the team have, it’s great to be reunited to work together after some 20 years.
“Whilst I’ve never worked with Tom, we’ve raced against him for several seasons and know what a fierce competitor he is. I can’t wait to see them out in a Century car and see what we can achieve together.”
The established Gough/Wrigley pairing have switched from the rival Race Lab McLaren outfit with which they secured a pair of overall GT4 wins in 2023, en route to third in the standings and runner-up spot in GT4 Pro-Am.
