New arrival takes four wickets on his Stratford debut
NEW signing Joe White is worth his weight in gold according to Stratford’s vice-captain as he helped secure an opening day victory over Bedwortth in the Warwickshire League Premier Division.
The debutant picked up four wickets including both openers to help his side to a four-wicket win.
Archie Walker, who skippered the side in the absence of captain James Urquhart, said: “Bedworth are a good side and have always put up a good fight against us so it was nice to get it over the line, particularly as we had a lot of gaps in our team.
“I would normally open the bowling but I made the decision to get Joe on, our new signing, to open with Tom Grundy and it came off a treat with him getting four wickets to break through their top order.
“Tom, as always, was tight at the other end and we had the reassurance of having myself and Sean Hopwood to come in. It meant the opposition didn’t get a break.
“It was a great debut for Joe and he’s worth his weight in gold. He has fitted in like a glove at Stratford and he shows good signs of being a decent batsman. He’s a complete player and what we need if we are to push for the title.”
