Morgan lands prestigious trophy
SHIPSTON AC’S Fish ‘n’ Frolics event began with a highly enjoyable and extremely competitive three-day event with the coveted Ultimate Angler Trophy – and this year saw a new name added.
Local angler Bryan Morgan took the honours with a near faultless festival, coming third on the first day at Aston Magna, second on the second day on the River Stour and victory on the final day on the Avon at Seven Meadows with 11lb 9oz of chub.
His six points was enough to beat Malcolm Barnes' eight points who also had a cracking festival having claimed a third and a fourth before also claiming a final day victory.
Newbury angler Brian Cripps, Steve Arthurs and Aidrian Icke had 11 points apiece and there were quite a few that could have won going into the final day.
The fishing was hard over all the different venues over all three days and this was probably down to it being exceedingly hot on the opening day with many anglers wilting.
This week the attention turns to the juniors with the club offering free tuition, bait and equipment on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Booking can be done on the Shipston Angling Club website and with the event proving very popular, it is advisable to secure your place.
Saturday also sees the popular festival taking place from 3pm at Shipston Sports Club. The free event includes live music, food, drink and fairground rides. Among the acts are headliners J.E.E.P and country singer Guy Surtees.
