Mixed fortunes for Andrews in Davis Cup

PETE ANDREWS had mixed fortunes after winning one final and losing another when Stratford-on-Avon Tennis Club held the finals of their Davis Cup tournament recently.

The tournament had started back in September and attracted more than 70 members in the women’s and men’s doubles events and two mixed doubles events.

The finalists produced some excellent tennis, most notably in the men’s doubles event where Kevin Chute and Jamie Vining narrowly edged out Alf Rajkowski and Andrews.

In the main mixed doubles, Andrews partnered Wendy Osborne to defeat Martin Osborne and Sara Owrid in two sets.

In the last final of the afternoon, Jackie Nixon and Richard Timmis proved too strong for Thiekla Blackmore and Jamie Vining, winning in two sets.

Stratford-on-Avon Tennis Club caters for all abilities both young and old, with opportunities for social and competitive tennis.
