Midland League weekend preview

ALCESTER Town player-boss James Robbins says his side’s recent run of form has put the club ‘right in the mix’ in the Midland League Division Three title race.

Title rivals Leamington Hibernian and FC Stratford have both dropped points in recent weeks allowing Alcester to close the gap at the top.

With Alcester still to play many of their title rivals, Robbins knows there is still plenty to play for this season.

“We have put ourselves right in the mix thanks to our excellent run of results,” he said.

“A couple of the sides at the top have dropped points, which can only be good for us.

“We have ten games left, that’s 30 points up for grabs and we’ll be doing all we can to take as many points from those fixtures as possible and see where it takes us.”

Those ten games begin with a game against Perrywood on Saturday, a side known for their physical edge.

Robbins added: “Perrywood are always a physical test but it’s something we’ll relish.

“We’ve proven on many occasions this season we can roll our sleeves up and fight for points.

“It’s a big game and one where we should be looking to take maximum points from.”

Alcester move up to third if results go their way on Saturday.

Former leaders FC Stratford have gone five games without a win and will be hoping to arrest that slide at home to Boldmere Sports & Social Falcons.

Shipston Excelsior return to action this weekend following last weekend’s postponement against Alcester Town.

Steve Hedderman’s men head to basement side AFC Solihull, a side hammered 13-0 by Redditch Borough last time out.

Badsey Rangers have a tough afternoon in store when they take on sixth-placed Barton United at Badsey Recreation Ground.

In Midland League Division One, there is a big game at the bottom at relegation rivals Southam United take on Bolehall Swifts at Banbury Road.

Heather St Johns, another side deep in relegation trouble, will be looking for points at Studley, while Littleton entertain Cadbury Athletic.

Earlswood Town, currently bottom of Midland League Division Two, take on ninth-placed Austrey Rangers.
