Warwick Racecourse abandons meeting due to frozen ground
TODAY'S (Thursdsay) Eventmasters Christmas At The Races meeting at Warwick was abandoned after heavy overnight frost, writes David Hucker.
In view of the adverse weather forecast, the course had announced an inspection at 8am, but this was brought forward and, with the ground frozen and temperatures not expected to rise much above freezing during the day, racing was abandoned.
Advance ticker holders and hospitality bookings will be automatically refunded and there is no need to contact the course.
Looking ahead to next month, Warwick has announced that The Wigley Group, sponsors of the season's most valuable race, The Wigley Group Classic Chase to be run on Saturday, 14th January, is offering a bonus of £100,000 if the winner goes on to success in the Randox Grand National at Aintree, a feat last achieved by the Lucinda Russell-trained One For Arthur in 2017.
