LUXEMBOURG'S Christine Majerus has won the opening stage of the Aviva Women's Tour.

In an exciting final kilometre to the 132km stage from Southwold to Norwich, she overtook Cyclance's Alison Tetrick who had earlier led by one minute and 53 seconds.

Majerus, of Boels Dolmans, claims the yellow jersey with her time of three hours, 24 minutes and 48 seconds, having led those who took the first five places after successfully pursuing Tetrick.

Rabo Liv's Marianne Vos finished second, ahead of Wiggle High5's Giorgia Bronzini, Ale Cipollini's Marta Bastianelli and Cervelo Bigla's Lotta Lepisto.

Britain's Lizzie Armitstead was among the competitors as she continues her preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

The Tour resumes in Warwickshire tomorrow, with its first ever stage in the county, heading south from Atherstone via the likes of Kenilworth and Warwick.

The stage also passes through Gaydon and Shipston-on-Stour, skirting the Cotswolds before the finish in Stratford-upon-Avon.
