Stratford & District Table Tennis League round-up: Littleton Lynx beat reigning champions Stratford Racketeers as Stratford enter representative teams in the Midlands Table Tennis League
A strong week of action in the Stratford & District Table Tennis League saw excellent performances across all divisions - and exciting news that Stratford will now be represented in the prestigious Midlands Veterans League for the first time.
In Division One, Littleton Lynx overcame reigning champions Stratford Racketeers, who were understrength due to British League commitments for two of their regular squad. Worcestershire county player Craig Witherford was in fine form, taking all his matches alongside teammate John Mackay, as the Lynx stormed to an impressive 15-3 victory. JLM Hussars hosted Shottery and the visitors dominated, winning 14-5 thanks to Gary Stewart and Robert Poole.
Division Two produced several close encounters. Henley-in-Arden defeated Quinton 13-5, inspired by strong performances from Barry Quirke and Peter Quince. Ilmington and Willersey shared the spoils in a thrilling 10-10 draw, with Rick Burgess remaining unbeaten for Ilmington. Continuing Littleton’s excellent form, the Littleton Panthers secured a 12-9 win over Stratford Edge Shots, led by standout player Edward Waldron.
In Division Three, the spotlight fell on the next generation as the two Stratford junior teams faced off. Stratford Junior Boys Red triumphed 15-1 against Junior Boys Blue, with Leo Burnett and Charlie Shuker delivering dominant displays.
Stratford has confirmed it will now have representative teams competing in the Midlands Table Tennis League, captained by club chair Kevin Taylor. The Stratford squad will face Derby, Birmingham, Hinckley, and Nuneaton in their debut season in Division Three.
“It’s a fantastic milestone for Stratford table tennis,” said Kevin Taylor, chair of Stratford-upon-Avon Table Tennis Club. “We’re proud to be growing the sport locally and giving players of all ages and abilities the chance to compete and enjoy the game.”
With weekly league matches, community coaching, and open practice sessions, table tennis continues to thrive across Stratford and the surrounding district.
