Claverdon maintain perfect start to new Counties Two Midlands West (South) season
NEWLY-promoted Claverdon made it two wins from two as they stormed to a 27-5 success over Rugby St Andrews at Ossetts Hole Lane.
The Lions won all 20 of their Midlands Four West (South) fixtures last season and they have carried that winning feeling into Counties Two Midlands West (South).
After a dominant away win at Pinley last time out, the Lions scored an early try on Saturday after centre Will Jackson dotted down following a well-worked move.
Fellow centre Sam Turrell then added his name to the scoresheet soon after, with James Williams kicking the extras to make it 12-0 after ten minutes.
After continued back and forth the hosts scored again as James Williams finished off a signature breakaway try before slotting over the extras.
The visitors responded later on, fully utilising their heavy forward pack to bully their way up the pitch.
Rugby's full-back then danced over the whitewash to claw back five points and at half-time the Lions found themselves 22-5 in front.
Claverdon knew a solid second-half performance was needed to maintain the lead and well-executed play kept St Andrews at bay.
With less than ten minutes remaining, a clever backline move saw full-back Hilton Garner-Jones split the defence and great support from debutant Archie Hinchliffe allowed him to finish the move off to complete the afternoon's scoring.
The Lions travel to fellow unbeaten side Southam on Saturday.
