The match started slowly, with both sides giving away unnecessary penalties, but the Lions eventually capitalised with a simple try from Hilton Garner-Jones, who side-stepped his way to the line.

Ten minutes before the break the game was stalled following a poor challenge from Welsh’s outside centre, causing a potential season-ending injury to captain Michael Jay.

After moving pitches due to the injury and leading 10-6 at half-time, Claverdon were determined to avenge the loss of their captain.

And some fantastic rugby saw the hosts stretch their lead with sensational tries from Charlie Byrd, Josh Evans and Luke Rogers.

Meanwhile, the 2nd XV were involved in an entertaining 45-45 draw against Old Leamingtonians 2nds.

Claverdon have a weekend off before returning to league action on Saturday, 23rd October with a trip to Bedworth.
