Emphatic first-half display helps Claverdon see off Burbage
Claverdon 46-14 Burbage
Counties Two Midlands West (South)
CLAVERDON brought an end to their five-game winless run with an emphatic victory over Leicestershire side Burbage at Ossetts Hole Lane.
The Lions started strongly and were soon 3-0 up after a penalty inside the opening minutes was duly slotted over by James Williams.
The home side soon crept back into Burbage territory and a simple, yet effective move saw Alex Grove glide over the line. Williams added the extras.
Claverdon were clearly in the driving seat and the highlight score of the game came from a line-out in the opposition 22.
A clean ball to Williams was followed by a pass out wide to Hilton Garner-Jones and he broke the line and off-loaded to Grove, who then provided George Redwood the opportunity to show his pace and dive for the corner.
Further tries from Josh Evans and Josh Dean extended Claverdon’s lead going into half-time, although the visitors did manage to score a converted try of their own from a driving maul.
Despite being 34-7 down, Burbage showed good heart in the second half and a well-worked backs move was executed, with their winger touching down in the corner for a converted try.
However, Claverdon proved too strong and further tries from both Charlie Wakelam and Chris Johnson took the game away from Burbage.
The Lions make the trip to eighth-placed Woodrush on Saturday.
