STRATFORD’S Junior Sea Cadets from TS Gurkha stormed to success in the inaugural Warwickshire Junior District five-a-side football competition held in Coventry recently.

Having remained unbeaten in all of their games, the juniors joined senior teams from Rugby, Shirley and Coventry to represent Warwickshire in the area competition in Gloucester.

Junior Cadets William Stanley, Angel Ryan, Harry Agar, Jamie Edmunds, Ella Wasley and Fraser Lawrence topped their league, winning 5-1 against South Wales, 3-0 against Devon and 6-2 against Cornwall.

Facing stronger competition in the semi-finals, TS Gurkha were defeated by Mercia 4-1, but went on to win the semi-final play-off to earn their bronze medals.

Officer in charge of Junior Cadets, APO Drinkwater was delighted with the players’ efforts.

He said: “This is the first competition our junior cadets have taken part in. To win the District Shield and the area bronze medals is just brilliant.”
