Studley return to Hellenic League Division One summit with gutsy victory over Hereford Pegasus
STUDLEY returned to the top of the table with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over a good Hereford Pegasus side on Saturday.
With manager Jon Edwards and a couple of players missing due to Covid-19, the Bees were quick out of the blocks and scored the only goal of the game in the third minute when Sam Jackson got on the end of a Dale Edwards cross.
The game became a middle of the park battle in the first half and although devoid of any goalmouth action, it was entertaining to watch.
The second half began with Hereford keen to address the balance, but they could not find the way past a very resolute Studley defence.
Studley looked dangerous when going forward and indeed Jake Bloomer was unlucky on the hour mark when his shot was pushed onto the post by Jason Davies in the Hereford goal.
Pegasus had a glorious chance to equalise with ten minutes remaining, but Toby Wildig blasted over when well placed.
As Hereford committed more men forward they were leaving gaps at the back and Studley had one or two good chances which they could not convert.
The victory meant the Bees went top on goal difference and have a game in hand on second-placed Worcester Raiders.
Studley are next in action on Saturday, 22nd January when they entertain Abingdon United.
