Snitterfield's Clive Irwin and John Price produce perfect performances in re-arranged Davenports Stratford Table Tennis League fixtures
SNITTERFIELD concluded the first round of fixtures of the Davenports Stratford Table Tennis League in style by clinching straight sets victories, reports Peter Florence.
They contested their two outstanding matches simultaneously, with Clive Irwin and John Price producing perfect performances against both FISSC and Stratford Eagles.
With all 12 teams having played each other, the league will now be split into two divisions with Stratford Capulets, Shottery, Stratford Romeos, FISSC and Ashorne joining Snitterfield in the first tier, and the remaining six forming the second division.
Points won to date will be carried forward and teams will meet their divisional opponents both home and away, with fixtures set to be completed during the first week of April.
The opening round of the Knockout Cup saw Stratford Romeos and Ashorne advance to the next stage.
The experienced Romeos’ team of Nello Mauri and Richard Bennett proved too strong for Stratford Othellos, although Seth Warner took a keenly contested set from Bennett. After open play Romeos led 207-83, but the handicaps reduced their level of victory to 33 points.
Ashorne’s regular partnership of Andy Coonan and Steve Bolton finished their match against Stratford Hamlets with a score of 210-127 which, after application of the adjustment, still produced a winning margin of 24 points.
The remaining teams enjoyed a bye, but will contest the second round during the week commencing 21st February.
