But Scottish driver McKay put aside the adversity to take his first Pro-Am1 class victory in only his third cup appearance.

After qualifying third in class, he fell out of the first race when trying a final-lap overtaking move. But in the second he reeled in the leaders in the final lap for the win.

McKay, from Greenwich, said: “The guys at In2Racing have done a fantastic job all weekend.

“To start off in the wall is never great but to come away with Brands Hatch with a first Pro-Am1 win is perfect.

“In2Racing’s attitude has been incredible and lifted my spirits. It justified their 34-hour day on Saturday and they didn’t just piece the car back together they improved for the races.”

In2Racing’s Tom Bradshaw, from Bolton, ended in qualifying in tenth before taking eighth in the first race and improving to seventh in the second.
