Hockey round-up: Stratford punished for missed chances
Stratford held firm until the closing stages of the first half when Bournville scored their first.
The home side fought back in the second half with solid play from youngsters Matt David and Sam Grigg causing Bournville plenty of trouble.
A defensive mistake allowed Dave Coache into the D, only to be visciously brought down for a penalty flick.
The flick was duly dispatched by Ed Grigg to level the scores.
Stratford had the better of the second half, creating chances and penalty corners but they were unable to capitalise.
A great strike from the opposition took them ahead with only minutes left on the clock.
Stratford threw everything at them but were unable to find the back of the net.
A good game from both sides, on a day which saw many games cancelled.
Stratford 5ths 3-2 Stratford 4ths
Stratford 5ths took to the field against Stratford 4ths this week feeling confident after their draw to league leaders last Saturday.
It took less than four minutes for the 5th team to score their first goal, Ben Woodhams put the team ahead with a strike from a tight
angle.
This seemed to fire up the side even more and another goal soon followed from a short corner, clinically converted by Russell Lines.
The 4ths came back and managed to get themselves a goal just before half-time to reduce the deficit.
The second half again saw Woodhams slot another home and then the 5ths lost structure.
Somehow the defence, and man of the match Matthew Hyatt in goal, kept the opposition at bay until with two minutes to go they finally broke through and got another back.
The 5ths managed to hold on until the final whistle to take three points from their club-mates, in what proved to be the hardest fought match of the season.
