CAPTAIN Josh Hickman wants his Stratford Seconds to build on a ‘brilliant’ performance to consolidate their push for promotion in Birmingham League Second XI South.

Stratford toppled leaders Pershore with an impressive 91-run victory last week at Swans Nest Lane and they are back on home soil tomorrow (Saturday) when they face Eastnor.

Although not batting quite as well as in recent weeks, Stratford were still able to post a more than competitive total of 228-8 off 50 overs against Pershore, and then another strong bowling and fielding performance restricted Pershore to 137 all out.

Hickman praised his side’s winning mentality as they moved within 14 points of second-placed Berkswell.

“It was a very important match for us and to get the win in the manner that we did was brilliant,” said Hickman.

“Although we felt that we were very unlucky to lose against Pershore at the beginning of the season, they are top of the league for a reason. But I thought that once again, as we have done on a number of occasions this year, we really stepped up as a team.

“It is very noticeable with this side that when required in big matches, individuals put their hands up and take responsibility to deliver match-winning performances.

“It is a great trait for a team to possess and a pleasure to captain a team with that winning mentality.”
