Heroes in town to boost charity fund
STRATFORD Hockey Club hosted the Hockey for Heroes Operation Peace Finder fundraising tour on Friday evening as the charity aims to raise £70,000 over nine days.
Stratford fielded both a men's and women’s team against the touring squads at the recently opened KES astroturf, followed by a fundraising social event at Stratford Sports Club.
The women lost their match 2-1 but the men won theirs 3-1 with both games being sponsored by the Cardiogeni group which was founded by Stratford’s club captain, Ajan Reginald.
He explained: “My company and my family have been supporting Hockey for Heroes for a decade and we have finally been able to bring them to Stratford where we started our company nearly 15 years ago.
It has been great to see Heroes grow in that time to what it is now with 58 people making that commitment to travel around the country for a week to raise money for servicemen who need help.”
The Hockey for Heroes squads will complete a cumulative total of 2,029,201 metres of fitness racing, equating to one metre for each veteran currently living in the UK. To help them reach that target they also aim to play 54 hockey matches up and down the country before the end of the month.
