Harbury seal title and top 100 points

HARBURY clinched the Counties Three Midlands West (South) title at the weekend and made it to 100 points in the process.

Their bonus point 39-12 win at Worcester 2nds ensured they finished just one point ahead of Stoke Old Boys with both sides having won 20 of their 22 league matches.

Head coach Josh Biggs said: “Everything seemed to click in the second half of the season. We have a good group of players that are probably at a few levels above where we are. They are enjoying their rugby at Harbury and of course it helps that they are winning every week.

“Players have come to us largely through word of mouth from those already at the club and this year we have attracted quite a few from Leamington Royals.

“Since taking over a couple of years ago we have worked hard to make it one club so that it doesn’t matter whether you are playing first team or second team. That was shown on Saturday when we returned from Worcester and all the lads who had been playing at home were there waiting for us as we got off the bus to celebrate – which we did all together.

“We sat down at the start of the season after finishing third last time and just missing out on promotion. We said ‘let’s have a crack at this’. We didn’t get ahead of ourselves, taking it game by game, and we kept ticking along with promotion as the target at the end of the season.

“The aim is to try and keep these guys together and to keep enjoying our rugby and maybe bring in a few extra players because it is going to be tough and physical in the league above.”
