Golf club champions crowned

STEPHEN Creed and Anne Parry have been crowned Stratford Golf Club’s club champions after taking the honours in a 36-hole competition.

In form plus two handicapper Creed defied the challenging pins and superb, but tricky course conditions, to successfully defend his title with a three under par 141 total. His two under par second round helped him to break away from the field after low first round scores from Gareth Jenkins (70), Joel Smith (71) and Ian Wilton (72).

The ladies’ event was won by Parry which marked her tenth championship win spanning five decades since her first title in 1987.

Playing with defending champion Veronique Lintin and Charlotte Atkinson, the title could have gone to any of the three competitors coming down the last, but it went to Parry after she holed a lob wedge for a birdie four.

Creed has also qualified for the US Amateur Seniors Championship having secured 17th place in the World Amateur Golf Ranking table. This follows his success last year in winning the English Senior Amateur Championship and reflects all his hard work on the European and UK seniors circuit this year.

The event is being held at The Honors Course, Ooltewah, Tennessee from 24th to 29th August.
