Goals galore across weekend football fixtures

IT WAS a case of goals, goals and more goals on Saturday although a number of sides were on the receiving end with Earlswood Town and Southam United suffering heavy defeats.

There was good news for the majority of the 1,427 fans at the Arden Garages Stadium though as Stratford Town beat fellow Southern League Premier Central challengers Halesowen Town 2-0 to climb to second in the table.

Owen James handed them the perfect start with a goal after just nine minutes with Kevin Joshua adding another midway through the second half.

The visitors saw plenty of the ball, particularly in the second half, but failed to break down the Bards’ rock solid defence.

Studley remain just outside the play-off places in the MFL Premier following their 1-0 win at Romulus, substitute Lucas Edmonds on target, but Earlswood lost their Division Two match at leaders Knowle 7-0.

Southam United also suffered a 7-0 defeat in Division One of the Hellenic League but there was better news for FC Stratford who won 4-1 at Bewdley Town to keep them in the play-off mix.

The biggest winners at the weekend were Alcester Town who romped to an 11-0 win at Ro-Starts Hereford in the Herefordshire Premier League and Shipston Excelsior were 6-1 winners at home to Sporting Headington Academicals in Division One of the Oxfordshire Senior League.
