Five-medal haul for Stratford AC's Paula Williams at British Masters T&F Championships
PAULA Williams came away from the prestigious British Masters T&F Championships in London with an impressive five medals – all that coming after quite the hair-raising start.
The Stratford AC ace almost missed her first event, the sprint hurdles, due to traffic hold-ups on the M25. Phoning ahead, though, enabled a friend to collect her numbers.
Upon her arrival in the capital city, she put her spikes on, set up her blocks and went over two hurdles as a warm up.
Despite the dramatic start to the championships, she won silver in a season’s best time of 9.90s. Her second event was the javelin where she would top the podium with an impressive throw of 32.79m.
Williams’ final event of day one was the triple jump where 9.68m was good enough to earn the silver medal.
Day two started without the stress 24 hours earlier and in the shot put, she threw a season’s best of 11.89m to claim the gold medal.
Williams then won her heat in the 60m before going on to win another silver in the final, clocking 8.53s.
Her success in London meant she came away with a superb five-medal haul made up of two golds and three silvers.
