GALLERY: Rowers get into fancy dress for return of Stratford Boat Club's Fun Regatta

AFTER two long years of waiting, the Stratford Boat Club Fun Regatta returned on Saturday and was deemed a great success, writes Will Rogers.

With teams from all around the region attending, there was a friendly atmosphere with a wide variety of fancy dress providing a great spectacle for all in attendance at the club’s grounds, the Bancroft Gardens and the Rec.

Following just three hours of training, the victors were the Meander Club, while Afro Circus took home the fancy dress prize.

Some of the best costumes included a crew of Vikings, a fearsome team of pirates and some more friendly Hawaiian shirts.

Fun Regatta organiser Simon Price was delighted with the day, saying: “We were heartened by the huge numbers who came to watch, cheer the competitors on and enjoy the spectacle.

"It may not have been the Henley Royal Regatta but we like to think that it was more fun to watch.”

On a more serious note, Jake Blatcher competed at the Llandaff Regatta and reached the men’s singles quarter-finals, whilst there was also success for the junior squads at the British Rowing Junior Championships.
