COACH Helen Smith was delighted with the first head race of the new season as Stratford-upon-Avon Boat Club enjoyed plenty of success.

Stratford fielded crews across the age range in the Wallingford Long Distance Sculls, held over 4.25km on the River Thames in Oxfordshire, an event which attracts top level scullers from around the region.

Alice Baines and Mya Kenny Baines and Kenny delivered a masterful sculling performance to win their J15 double scull event.

There were also second places for Amelie Sartain in the J14 single scull and Fred Tyler fought hard in the boys’ equivalent.

Max Griffiths and Dan Cox came third in their doubles event.

“It was another great start to the head racing season,” said Smith.
