Double win for Stratford Boat Club's juniors at Stourport

STRATFORD Boat Club’s juniors celebrated two victories in the annual Sprint Regatta hosted by Stourport on Severn Boat Club on the River Severn on a scorching weekend.

Bryony Francis, Martha Cooke and Josephine Cooper were part of two winning WJ13 coxed quadruple scull crews on Sunday over the 650-metre course.

The crew of Francis, Isla Dunn, Cooke, Sophie Franklin and Cooper (coxswain) rowed up to J14 level to race against Stourport Boat Club on their home water and produced a dominant display to take the win.

Then the team of Becca Smith, Cara Berisford-Murray, Cooper, Cooke and Francis (coxswain) brought the crowd to their feet to defeat Trent Boat Club in another red-hot final in 35 degrees Celsius temperatures.

The double scull combination of Millie Smith and Becca Smith had begun Sunday’s racing with a three-quarters-of-a-length victory over Trent Boat Club but they lost the final to a quality outfit from AB Severn by three lengths.

It was another AB Severn v Stratford final in the WJ13 single sculls but Isla Dunn was just denied by an AB sculler who had knocked out Stratford’s Sophie Franklin. In her semi-final, Dunn had defeated an Evesham sculler who had earlier ended the hopes of Millie Smith.

On Saturday, Stratford’s Masters were in action with the double of Suzie Radley and Amanda Bowden winning a straight final in their first race.
