Dan Summerfield leaves Stratford Town and signs for Redditch United
VERSATILE defender Dan Summerfield has left Stratford Town and signed for Southern League Premier Central Division rivals Redditch United.
The Welshman reluctantly decided to end a two-year stay at Stratford this week after failing to feature in any of Stratford's five league games this season.
Summerfield made 86 appearances for the club since joining in August 2016, scoring five goals. He was also named Stratford Herald's player of the year for 2017/18.
"I am very disappointed to be leaving Stratford," said the 23-year-old, who will join former Town team-mates Louis Connor and Liam Francis at the Reds.
"From day one, everyone at the club, from the fans, to the board members, have been extremely welcoming, and made me feel at home.
"I enjoyed pre-season with Darren (Byfield), Steve (Walker) and the lads, but after not featuring in the first couple of games of the season and receiving a few offers from other clubs, I believed it was the right decision for me to move on.
"I am looking forward to joining up with Louis and Liam at Redditch and can’t wait to get back on the pitch and play regularly again.
"I’d like to wish Stratford all the best for the season and look forward to being back there with Redditch."
Summerfield has been named in the Redditch squad for their trip to Leiston on Saturday.
