Creed lands place in England team after US display
THERE has been success on both sides of the Atlantic for Stratford Golf Club while the juniors staged their own competition to round off the school holidays.
In America, an outstanding performance in the US Seniors’ Amateur Championship at The Honors Course, in Tennessee, has rewarded Stephen Creed with his fifth England cap.
He finished 54th in the qualifying strokeplay stage out of the top 156 world ranking players in a nail-biting finish to secure one of the 64 matchplay places. He then went on to win his first round match in style, beating Kurt Reither (USA) 5/3.
In the next round he faced the long-hitting Dave Bunker from Canada and it was the North American who won through.
This was the first time anyone from Stratford Golf Club had qualified for the US Seniors’ Amateur Championship and Creed will now represent England in the Home Internationals at Castlerock Golf Club in Northern Ireland from 15th September.
Closer to home, 22-year-old Jack Drury has added the Midland Open Amateur Championship to his Warwickshire crown.
He won the event at Shirley Golf Club with a four-round total of 286 (72,71,72,71), three shots ahead of Philipp Krone (Moseley GC) and Jensen Parfitt (Collingtree Park GC).
The Junior Shoot Out was an enjoyable event with Georgina Priestly winning the nine-hole stableford competition with 21 points from Thomas Dodsworth and Theo Clegg clinching the shoot-out crown following an exciting putt out with Georgina.
The annual match between the club’s juniors and ladies saw the latter victorious for the first time in many years to secure the Ferguson Brassie.
