A WARWICKSHIRE County Council team triumphed for the first time in six years in the Warwick Town Triples final under the castle walls on Sunday.

Allan Bailey’s team of Pam Bradshaw and Wayne Roberts carried off the trophy after a dramatic day’s play. They were on the brink of elimination in the morning semi-final, three down on the 18th end with David Hurst’s Warwick Boat Club team holding shots.

But a wonderful shot by their skip Roberts took the jack into the ditch resulting in three points to take the match into a deciding end, which they won.

It was tough on Hurst’s team of Jacqui Ashley and Chris Hurst who had led throughout the match.

In the other morning semi-final the WBC team of Peter Boardman, John Labrum and Lyn Taylor overcame another WBC team, Peter Lamb, Jenny Lamb and Carolyn Labrum, 25-7.

In the final which followed on a sweltering afternoon, Bailey’s team were behind at the halfway stage.

Boardman’s team, who won the trophy two years ago, took a four shot lead, 9-5, after ten ends but with accurate bowling from Bradshaw and Bailey himself they fought their way back. By the 13th end they took the lead and never relinquished it.

Eventually they ran out 17-9 winners to the delight of the county council supporters who have not seen any of their teams lift the trophy since 2012 when Richard Sharp, Frank Jackson and Joyce Sharp won it.
