REIGNING Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club champion Rob Copperthwaite continued his great form as he was crowned the Warwickshire Open champion at Kenilworth Golf Club last week.

Played on a day where winds reached up to 50mph, the 24-year-old showed real composure in such difficult conditions, carding a one-over-par round of 72, two shots clear of runners up Joe Macilwraith (Olton) and Paul Walker (Maxstoke Park).

This certainly made up for the slight disappointment earlier in the season where he lost in a play off for the Amateur Championship. Given his results in both of the above, he also won the TP Cooke Salver, which is an accumulative score of these events.

Copperthwaite now intends to play his last competition as an amateur in the Warwickshire Champion of Champions in October, before joining the professional ranks to follow his dream.
