Captain’s praise for league’s top young player
STRATFORD skipper James Urquhart has praised teenager Osian Catlin after the 17-year-old was named Warwickshire Cricket League’s young player of the year.
The wicketkeeper/batsman bagged 14 dismissals including nine stumpings for the Premier Division side and also averaged 35 with the bat.
Urquhart said: “Osh had a fantastic season for us, scoring two of the best hundreds you'll see alongside many other contributions with the bat.
As a captain, what impressed me most was his ability to hit quite literally 360 degrees around the ground and for someone so young to have all the shots, the confidence to play them in a game and also the execution is really great to see.
“At the start of the season we had him batting at six or seven in the traditional wicketkeeper/batsman role but when we were missing our number three, Osh put his hand up without hesitation and scored a hundred. We stuck with him in that position and he really thrived.
“He's currently in Australia having a 'winter season' over there, so hopefully his form will continue into the start of our season come April.”
