Byng's perfect run continues as he claims gold at SIAB International
LEWIS Byng continued his phenomenal run of success as he landed another big title at the SIAB International on Saturday.
The competition, which this year was held in Grangemouth, Scotland, brings together the top school-age athletes from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
Stratford AC’s Byng, who was representing the England team, produced a stunning series of throws and won by more than two-and-a-half metres with 19.40m.
Not only was it a 54-centimetre improvement on his previous best, it moves him to fourth on the UK under-17 all-time list.
That mark also ranks him 11th in the world this year in the youth age group.
Byng and fellow shot putter Nana Gyedu won the David Littlewood memorial awards for the most outstanding performances by English athletes.
“I’ve had a great year so far,” said Lewis.
“I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season with the UK U17 Championship in August to aim for.”
The success follows his victories at the England U20 Championships and English Schools’ Championships, plus his appearance at the European U18 Championships.
