Bees boss pleased with impact of his goalscoring pair

GOALS from teenage pocket rocket Fin Holmes and former Redditch United and Solihull Moors frontman helped Studley secure a 2-2 draw with MFL Premier title rivals Congleton Town – and had manager Mike Fowler singing their praises.

Their goals handed Bees a two-goal lead and although their visitors rallied to claim a share of the spoils, Fowler admitted that a point apiece was a fair outcome.

He said: “On the balance of play and in the first half I thought we were excellent and it wasn’t that we didn’t play well second half, it was just that they were a lot better so you have to give them credit. They are the best team in the league.

“We have had three chances to win it right at the death but to be honest, a draw was probably a fair result. It could have gone either way on the day. Not many teams are getting points off them so we’ll take it.

“It has been a long time since we have lost a game of football so the habits are there.

“If you would have said to me at the beginning of the game that we would draw 2-2 and have a chance to win it at the death and Zac Guinan was going to get it then I would have put my house on it.”

Martin fired Bees into an early lead and the 24-year-old has impressed his manager since linking up with Studley.

Fowler said: “Romario scored again with an unbelievable finish. He is such a handful.

“That was his tenth goal of the season and he didn’t play much in the first month or two because we were getting him up to speed fitness wise after not playing for a while. But if you get him in and around that box with the ball on his left foot, I’m telling you now there’s a 99 per cent chance that he’s running away celebrating. He’s a talented lad with a good pedigree and he’s still a young player – but one who is a good player for us.

“As a person, he has been incredible for the group – his attitude and the way he is with the young lads. He has taken on a bit of leadership and responsibility for me this year. He is a different class to work with as a person.”

Martin, who was capped for St Kitts and Nevis back in 2017, also had a hand in Studley’s second, ably put away by 17-year-old Holmes.

Fowler added: “Fin has gone up against Congleton today, scored and possibly could have had another two or three. He is a handful. He is pacy, direct and he can carry the ball which is something you cannot coach too much – it is a natural ability.

“He did well against Highgate in the cup back in October and Boldmere put seven days in for him straight after that game because he was just electric. So, when he wasn’t playing [for them], we obviously jumped at the chance to bring him back and since then he has caused carnage.”
