Bees boss happy with new approach
A MORE defensive approach might not be as pleasing on the eye for Studley boss Mike Fowler but he admits it is bringing results for the MFL Premier Division side.
Early goals from recent recruit Jack Downing and Elliot Lees earned his side a 2-2 draw with visitors Atherstone Town on Monday and he will be hoping to build on that when basement club Uttoxeter Town visit the Beehive on Saturday.
Fowler said: “We are a little bit more defensive this season, not as free-flowing and attractive on the eye which is difficult for me to watch sometimes as a purist. But it is bringing us better results because we are not as expansive and it has been good for us.
“It has been a good start and has given us the opportunity to be somewhere near to where we need to be at the end of the season. We just need to keep building.”
While the Bees led 2-0 against Atherstone, Fowler admits a draw was probably a fair result.
He added: “When we got to 2-0, and this has been happening in our away games, it is almost as if we’ve said ‘that’s enough now’. We have been defending quite well recently so we have not been taking that extra pass to expose the areas that we wanted to. That has allowed them to get a foot in the game.
“On reflection I think a draw was a fair result against the form team in the league.”
