Bees boss happy with cup success

STUDLEY booked their place in the second round of the Birmingham Senior Cup with a 3-2 win at Atherstone Town on Tuesday.

Goals from Jamie Spiers, Dexter Dudley-Toole and new signing Elliot Lees, secured the win with Bees boss Mike Fowler fielding a much-changed side from the one involved in recent league games.

“We mixed it up a bit, rested a few players and included a couple of 16-year-olds,” he explained. “So to go there and get the win was very good - it was a lot more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.

“We have been on a fantastic run with seven wins, a draw and two losses and with six clean sheets. We have been putting a lot in.

“Last year we beat Highgate at home 4-2 and they drew Coventry City at home in the next round. There was a big crowd and it was a great tie and we only lost on penalties but were unlucky on the night not to beat them in front of a big crowd.

“Competitions like this and the Midland Football League Cup - where we play Paget Rangers on Monday - are great because you don’t have to get through too many rounds and you are into the latter stages.”
