Bards return after break with a point to prove

STRATFORD Town manager Gavin Hurren is urging his players to right a few wrongs when they take on fellow Southern League Premier Central play-off hopefuls Halesowen Town on Saturday.

The Bards were below par when losing 2-0 in the Black Country back in September and Hurren admits that hurt the players.

He said: “We underachieved when we played over there, we weren’t at the races. You have to give the opposition credit and Halesowen were the better side on the day.

“We need to put that right because I know it hurt the lads and hopefully we will have a positive reaction. This season I can think of just one or two games where we were poor and that includes Halesowen away.”

Saturday’s match will be the first for the Bards since beating Barwell three weeks ago and the manager added: “The break has helped a couple who were carrying injuries.

“All the players are chomping at the bit to get back in action. The support we have had on some of our away games has been outstanding so it’s good that after having such a break, we can get going again with a home match in front of our own fans, particularly against a top side in Halesowen.

“There is an end goal and I have a target to hit at the end of the season. At the moment we are on the right path and it is important that we prepare for each game. We have had Halesowen watched and we have a game plan. We have been working on things on the extra training sessions that we have had.”
