At the start of the season the Bards had lost just one of their opening eight Southern Premier Central games and it seemed an exciting campaign was in the offing.

However, a run of just one win in their last 11 league outings has seen Gavin Hurren’s men slip to the outskirts of the relegation zone in 18th.

Stratford now face a crunch clash at bottom-of-the-table Hednesford Town on Saturday (12.30pm kick-off) and Taylor, who scored the equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Royston Town last time out, told the Herald this is a match the team cannot afford to lose.

“We’ve not been getting the rub of the green at the minute but we’ve just got to keep working hard,” he said.

“We know how much quality we have in the squad and that’s the annoying thing, we know we should be doing a lot better.

“Everybody is disappointed because we should be doing a lot better to a man. At the end of the day, one win in 11 is not good enough, it’s that simple.”

He added: “Every game is a must-win now if we have any aspirations of doing anything because we want to be looking forward and not behind us.

“Saturday is a definite must-win, we cannot afford to lose that.”

After Hednesford, the Bards are on the road to FA Cup heroes Alvechurch on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

The Church channelled the magic of the cup en route to the second round where they were beaten 2-1 at League One strugglers Forest Green on Saturday.

Due to the Worcestershire side’s cup exploits, they are now playing catch-up in the league.

Alvechurch currently sit third-bottom but have six games in hand on Stratford and even more on some of the sides around them.
