Bards appeal league call to replay match

STRATFORD Town have appealed a Southern League decision stating that the club must replay its match with Alvechurch which was abandoned after 87 minutes on bank holiday Monday due to two players and a supporter needing medical treatment.

The Bards were leading 3-0 at the time and the three points would have kept their outside play-off hopes alive going into the final league game of the season at St Ives Town on Saturday.

It had appeared that an agreement had been reached between the two managers, chairmen and players following a discussion with the referee who had suggested that because there was more than 75 minutes on the clock, it was likely that the result would stand.

But it later transpired that there would have been a minimum of 17 minutes of added time so that option was thrown into doubt.

An emergency committee meeting of the league was due to meet later today (Wednesday) to consider Stratford Town’s appeal but if the match is replayed then it will take place tomorrow (Thursday) evening (ko 7.45pm).
