Alcester Town given rude awakening by Continental Star, says Macleod

PERRY Macleod says Alcester Town’s opening-day victory over Continental Star provided a rude awakening for his players.

Alcester were forced to come from behind before going on to win 3-1 thanks to second-half strikes from Elliot Nash, Daniel Priest and Bradley Dugmore.

Macleod, who replaced Danny Janes in the Alcester hotseat in the summer, felt it was a welcome reality check for his new-look squad, who went into the game expecting an easy ride.

“It was a rude awakening for the lads, to be honest,” said Macleod.

“We’ve got a lot of good players on the roster and a lot who dropped down to this level thought it would be easy work.

“Some of the lads thought it was going to be 7-0, 8-0 or 9-0.

“I’m glad we got the result and it’s nice to get off to a winning start. I’m also glad the lads were given a bit of an eye-opener at this early stage of the season.”

Alcester are back in action on Wednesday night at fellow title hopefuls AFC Solihull.
