STRATFORD AC’s Alex Adams won the 5km race at the Balsall Common Fun Run on Sunday.

More than 500 runners took to the streets of Balsall Common on a sunny but chilly day to show their support for the Lily Mae Foundation, a charity that supports parents and families after a stillbirth or neonatal death.

Alex was one of three Stratford AC athletes in the 5km race, while club-mates Luke and Natasha Watkins contested the 10km.

Within the first mile it was clear 12-year-old Alex meant business. He was in second place overall, running alongside the leader of the 10km race.

The duo ran together until the point where the 10km runners start their second lap and the 5km runners head for their finish line.

Alex crossed the line in first place in 18:14, just 15 seconds shy of his official PB for the distance and nearly a minute quicker than the winning time from last year.

Emily Adams, Alex’s mum, clocked 23:30 and was the third woman to finish.

“I was pleased with my run,” she said. “It felt good, especially after running the Midland Road Relays just 24 hours earlier. I thoroughly enjoyed the course.”

Emily’s mum Cindy Brittan found the undulating course challenging and a bit windy but enjoyed it nevertheless, finishing in 37:55.

Luke placed 63rd in the 10km with 48:56, while Natasha clocked 1:05:46. Both had good runs and enjoyed the undulating course.
