Adams looks to end cup pain against Sky Blues

Many managers see the county cup as a chance to shuffle their squad and give fringe players match practice but Adams has two reasons to field his strongest possible team.

First, the Town manager has been preaching consistency and it would be send the contrary message to make changes for the sake of it.

And secondly Adams admits his own record in cups is simply woeful. For all the success in the league, a couple of rounds in the FA Trophy is his best run in his four seasons at the DCS.

“I can’t even spell ‘cup’,” he joked. “It’s the one thing that’s missing from my CV. It was another disappointment to go out of the FA Cup early on this season but it’s about time we did something in the cups.

“The Senior Cup against Coventry is a good game to test us and hopefully bring a few people into the ground. It’s a competition we want to do well in.

“We haven‘t got that big a squad to make a lot of changes but I want to keep a little bit of continuity in the line-up. I’ve been going on about the players needing to be consistent and I need to be consistent in what I do.

“We will send out as strong a team as we possibly can.”

Alex Price, Tyrone Fagan and fit-again Richard Gregory all come into contention to face what is expected to be a Sky Blues Under-21s side. Youth team striker Charlie Faulkner is likely to be in the 16.

It will be striker Gregory’s first appearance in a Town shirt since he injured his ankle in the opening match of the season at Hitchin. He has had three games on loan at Tividale to sharpen up his fitness.
