Adams hails 'man mountain' Fagan
MANAGER Carl Adams hailed Tyrone Fagan as his ‘man mountain’ after the striker led Stratford Town into the Birmingham Senior Cup semi-finals.
Town ended an eight-match winless streak with a 2-1 victory over Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Rushall Olympic at the DCS on Tuesday night.
Just as the game appeared to be heading for a penalty shoot-out, Jamie Sheldon scored in added time to seal a deserved victory.
Fagan made a welcome return to the starting line-up after recovering from flu and his efforts delighted the Town boss.
“Tyrone Fagan was a man mountain tonight,” beamed Adams.
“He was the one who brought the lads together. Vocally, you could hear him.
“He was fouling people… he was simply a man mountain for us. He’s just what you want. We’re a quiet, nice team and Ty was our governer tonight.”
The winning goal had more than a slice of good fortune about it, but Town have been overdue some good luck after a rotten six-week run of results, many of which have seen Town edged out by a single goal.
Adams said: “We’ve been unlucky a few times recently and on Tuesday night we got a bit lucky. That’s what we needed.
“On chances in front of goal I do think we deserved to win the game. As possession goes, I think it was very even.
“Kempy made one good save with his knee, but I think on chances with (Richard) Gregory’s couple, Mark (Magee) had a couple and Fagan had two as well.”
Town’s prize for beating Rushall is a home semi-final clash against Vanarama National League North leaders Solihull Moors.
Attention now switches back to the league, where Town have a daunting set of fixtures ahead of them.
Following Saturday’s trip to Weymouth, Town will take on the likes of Hitchin Town, Poole Town, Leamington, Hungerford Town and Kettering Town over the next three weeks.
