Adams frustrated by Town's Jekyll and Hyde nature
STRATFORD Town manager Carl Adams bemoaned the Jekyll and Hyde nature of his team after Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat to Hitchin Town.
Three days after their 4-1 dismantling of Farnborough, Stratford turned in a poor
team performance against a hard-working Canaries team.
Two costly errors from Town goalkeeper Louis Connor saw Hitchin take the points, but no Town player left the pitch with much credit on a night to forget.
Afterwards, Adams was unable to hide his frustration at the manner of defeat and he said: “It’s massively frustrating to have such a high with this team and then such a low.
“On Saturday against Farnborough we played very, very well, then three days later I just don’t know what team I’m watching again.
“I don’t think there was anybody who played well on Tuesday, I really don’t. Everybody knows that Hitchin are a very hard working team. They frustrate you and cause you to make mistakes.
“If you’d listened to my team talk at the start I set us up for that.
“I told everybody we have to do more off the ball to give the player with the ball an option, because they work very hard and will close us down. Otherwise we’ll end up kicking the ball out of play and that’s exactly what we did.”
Adams said the two goals that Stratford conceded were “comical,” and felt his goalkeeper should have done better.
“They were absolutely comical,” said Adams. “Louis has to do better with the first. He can’t parry that back out to a player. Louis has been great for us this year, but I’m not going to sit here and defend the two goals he’s conceded.
“He’s got to do better with the first one and the second one was an absolute joke.
“It was a late shout by him and I still think Spider (Liam Francis) could have taken control of the situation and just headed it anyway.
“He’s ducked, it’s hit him on his back and it’s hit Louis on his knee. We got what we deserved, I’m not going to defend that.”
It doesn’t get any easier for Stratford, who are back at the MoodChimp Stadium this Saturday to take on title-chasing King’s Lynn Town.
The Linnets, who made it five wins on the bounce with a 2-1 victory over Basingstoke on Tuesday, are now just one point adrift of Evo-Stik South Premier title favourites Hereford, having now played two more games.
