A season of positives for Avon Bowling Club
A FLURRY of fixtures saw Avon bowlers in good heart as the 2022 season comes to a close.
Recruitment and retention of members has remained high despite coming to terms with the new and only partially satisfactory parking arrangements.
Community bowling is at the heart of Avon’s success and, under the expert and friendly guidance of Maggie Hosking and Derek Ridley, has flourished, developing both social and competitive bowlers.
A vibrant social scene, including quiz nights, has complimented activity on the green.
In the Kineton League, Avon had a playing record of won ten, drew two and lost nine for their best-ever finish in this tough competition.
With Avon fielding teams in Division One and Three of the Pickering League, both sides have remained competitive even if consistent success has eluded them.
The first week in September saw touring sides from Keynsham and West Hoathly at Avon.
Finals’ weekend from Friday, 16th to Sunday, 18th September is eagerly anticipated when it is hoped Avon president and town mayor Cllr Gill Cleeve, will be able to attend.
