Youngsters attempt to break human bicycle world record
More than 1000 local school children attempted to break the world record for the largest human image of a bicycle at Warwick Castle yesterday, Wednesday.
1017 pupils and teachers from Coten End Primary, Westgate Primary, Briar Hill Infants and Newburgh Primary Schools took part in the attempt.
The attempt was organised by Warwickshire County Council, with the aim of smashing the previous record of 794 people set in Cumbria last year.
Timekeepers for the attempt were the Leamington Cycling and Athletics Club.
It is part of the council’s efforts to engage and excite the next generation of cyclists and athletes in the run up to the Aviva Women’s tour stage two in Warwickshire on Thursday 16th June 2016.
The council hopes these events will inspire Warwickshire’s children to develop healthy lifestyles as they grow and see cycling as an alternative way to travel, as well as a leisure activity. There is also an emphasis on developing their cycle skills and road safety awareness.
Warwickshire County Council has also been engaging with schools in the Aviva Women’s tour directly by allowing children in Warwickshire to design the starters flag and the stage trophy.
The winners will be announced over the coming weeks with details of race day events.
