Young Shipston musician lands a place with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain

SHIPSTON Town Band’s young solo trombone player Alex Jeffrey has been offered a place in the prestigious National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

Alex will join the Easter course next year, playing alongside the best young players and being tutored by top musicians.

The week-long residential course, held at Taunton School, concludes with two prestigious concerts – one at the Welsh College of Music and Drama on 6th April, the other in Liverpool on 13th April.

Alex, who began playing trombone age 11, is a pupil at King Edward VI School, Stratford, where he plays in many musical groups.

As well as performing with Shipston Town Band, he also plays in a trombone quartet, Trombones Together.

Alex is the latest in a long line of former town band members who have joined the national band, including two of Britain’s leading cornet players, Kirsty Abbotts and Luke Barker, and percussionists Francesca Lombardelli and Alec Banner.
