The project is the result of a fundraising drive by villagers who, as well as raising a great deal of the money themselves, also secured valuable grant funding from a number of sources.
In an extra boost for the project, the working group tasked with fundraising secured an extra £30,000 of investment in December.
That extra money has come from a £10,000 grant from the Garfield Weston Foundation and £20,000 from the National Grid.
Mark Griffin, leader of the working group, said: “We are enormously grateful to both Garfield Weston Foundation and National Grid for their significant contributions towards our project. There is a real buzz around the village now that the end is nearly in sight.”
