Work begins on the new cinema at Bell Court

Construction work on a state-of-the-art multiscreen cinema at Stratford’s new Bell Court development has begun.

The steel frames that will form the structure of the 12,000 sq ft cinema are currently being put in place with the external cladding due to be installed over the summer.

The venue will be operated by the Everyman chain when it opens its doors.

In addition to the cinema, which will be located on the first floor of the building, three ground floor units will be built, as well as a larger unit situated adjacent to the cinema.

All demolition work at the former Town Square site has now been completed as the £30million redevelopment continues to progress.

John Stacey asset management director at developers UK & European Investments, said: “As set out in our initial plans, we’re on track to open the doors to the new shops, restaurants and, of course, cinema at Bell Court in spring next year (2017). The start of construction of the new cinema represents the next milestone on the redevelopment where people will start to see the new scheme take shape.

“Our aim is for Bell Court to become Stratford’s key retail and leisure destination. We’re currently in conversations with a number of high quality retailers that will further add to the diverse offering of Bell Court and ensure it retains a vibrancy both day and night.”

In addition to the Everyman cinema, hamburger chain Byron that will also open a restaurant at Bell Court and developers envisage the area becoming a thriving restaurant and retail hub.

Major enhancements will also be made to the public realm, including outdoor seating, soft landscaping, feature lighting and the introduction of public open space for events and outdoor entertainment.
