Wellesbourne's new sports centre nears completion
Excitement is growing in Wellesbourne as builders prepare to hand over the village’s new sports and community centre to the parish council later this month.
The final touches on the first phase of the £1.5million project are set to be finished by 21 October, after which a team of volunteers from the centre will fit out the building ready for use.
This first phase of development will see the old football club building transformed into changing rooms, a gym, an indoor exercise area and kitchen facilities.
Work on the project’s second phase, which will include a multi-use games area, tennis courts and a sports hall, is anticipated to get underway in the next few months.
Anne Prior, a director at the Wellesbourne Sports and Community Centre, said: “This will be a wonderful facility for the village. At the moment we have very few sports facilities in Wellesbourne and I know a number of local sports organisations are eager to use it. I have visited most weeks and the quality of finish is excellent.
“We are now working to fit the doors and furniture and we hope to open the centre by the end of the year.”
In preparation for that time, the parish council is in the process of appointing a manager to run the facility.
