Wellesbourne Allotments host open gardens day

June raising money for charity with the National Garden Scheme. THE Wellesbourne Allotments will host an Open Gardens Day on Sunday 17

The open gardens event will be from 2-5pm at the allotments on Kineton Road just 150 meters from the library. There is a £4 entry fee and children under 16 are free.

This year the allotments will be revealing how a Dementia Friendly plot is shaping up and visitors can also judge a scarecrow competition. The event offers a 12-point garden trail, which includes a stop at one plot where onions grow to 1.5kg each and another where tubular grown strawberries are automatically watered by solar power.

Chairman Ian Hope whose shed was featured on BBC’s Big Dreams Small Spaces programme will be there for all to see says: “We are aiming for a real garden party atmosphere.” Wellesbourne Allotment Association The

The event includes live music from the US3A Rock Choir and St Peters, plant stalls, teas and cakes, a Prosecco van and children’s activities too.

Mr Hope added: “These allotments are much valued locally, yet continue to be under threat of development by Coventry Diocese. This is your chance to see the huge variety of produce we grow here and to find out about how allotments can contribute so much to community life and to have a great afternoon out.”
